Associations/Organizations

  • Non-Timber Forest Products in Alaska - A workgroup under the leadership of the Alaska Soil and Water Conservation District whose goal is to address issues regarding an Alaskan NTFP industry.
  • Association for Temperate Agroforestry - A private, nonprofit organization formed to promote the wider adoption of agroforestry by landowners in temperate regions of North America.
  • American Botanical Council Online - A nonprofit organization that aims to educate the public about beneficial herbs and plants and to promote the safe and effective use of medicinal plants.
  • American Herbal Products Association - Promotes responsible commerce of products which contain herbs and which are used to enhance the quality of life.
  • Center for Plant Conservation - A network of more than 30 leading botanic institutions organized to conserve and restore the rare native plants of the United States. The cooperative CPC network maintains the National Collection of Endangered Plants, believed to be the largest living collection of rare plants in the world.
  • The Community Forestry Resource Center - Promotes responsible forest management by encouraging the long-term health and prosperity of small, privately owned woodlots, their owners, and their communities.
  • Community Resources NTFPs - A non-profit organization based in Baltimore, MD, promoting the use and production of NTFPS in urban areas.
  • El Manejo Campesino de Recursos Naturales y Productos Forestales no Maderables - A Mexico-based NTFP organization (Spanish).
  • Falls Brook Centre's NTFP Pages - This sustainable community demonstration and training centre in rural New Brunswick promotes sustainable practices in organic gardens, orchards, and forest trails; promotes ecological certification, solar and wind energy systems, and non-timber forest product plantings for mushrooms and ginseng; with domestic and international outreach programs.
  • Midwest Special Forest Products - Website for buyers and sellers of SFP whether the resource is in its natural state or as a finished product. Includes a bulletin board for posting of ideas, discussions and insights, news and updates, and tips for sustainable harvest and management.
  • Montana Specialty Forest Products Exchange - Provides buyers and sellers of forestry products and services with an online marketplace, and free forest information for both Montana landowners and anyone interested in the latest news and information about Montana's forests.
  • The National Network of Forest Practitioners - A grassroots alliance of rural people, organizations, and businesses finding practical ways to integrate economic development, environmental protection, and social justice.
  • Non-wood Forest Products (FAO) - Encourages sustainable agriculture and rural development, long-term strategies for increasing food production and food security while conserving and managing natural resources. This division focuses on promoting and developing Non-wood Forest Products.
  • NTFP.org - Organization supporting international research and activities concerning NTFPs.
  • The Overstory - A free bimonthly e-mail agroforestry journal for practitioners, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts that focuses on designing, developing, and learning more about agroforestry systems.
  • People and Plants Online - An organization that aims to conserve biodiversity and achieve sustainable use of plant resources. The group works in selected countries and internationally with local communities.
  • Plant Conservation Alliance - A consortium of agencies and cooperators that work collectively to solve the problems of native plant extinction and native habitat restoration, ensuring the preservation of our ecosystem.
  • Smoky Mountains Native Plants Association - Helps local people earn extra income through sustainably collecting, cultivating, processing, and marketing native plants; preserves native plants and herbs for future generations; and provides education about native plant species.
  • The Society of American Foresters - The national scientific and educational organization representing the forestry profession in the United States.
  • USDA National Agroforestry Center - Conducts research on how to design and install forested buffers to protect water quality and develops and delivers technology on agroforestry practices to natural resource professionals who directly assist landowners and communities.
  • West Virginia Herb Association - Founded as a non-profit, educational organization to promote ethical and environmentally sound propagation, cultivation, harvest and use of herbs in West Virginia.
  • Yellow Creek Botanical Institute - A non-profit organization that is working on the advancement of plants native to the southern Appalachians as new crops while fostering sustainable economic development in the region.
  • Global NTFP Partnership - Aims to link global, regional, and national organizations currently engaged in research and development activities concerning the systematic conservation and management of NTFPs in four regions: Africa, East and Southeast Asia, Latin America, and South Asia.
