NTFP Factoids Welcome to the NTFP Factoids. These brief summaries, with links to additional information, of plant species that provide important non-timber forest products are made available to help in your search for more knowledge. Over the years, we have gathered information regarding a diversity of plants that are of economic importance and are harvested for their non-timber products. The basic format of these “Factoids” follows that of the fact sheets, and provides a starting place for your investigation of the plants and their products. Materials presented, particularly that which deals with “Markets and Vendors” are for reader edification and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We have intentionally kept the “Factoids” brief, providing examples, and a starting place for more in-depth investigations. Statements made in the factoids concerning medicinal uses and properties are included for educational purposes only and may not have been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Discussion of medical uses is not intended for diagnoses, treatment, cure, nor prevention of ailments. Information in these documents about medicinal values is intended for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for advice of qualified healthcare professionals. The “factoids” presented herewith have been long in the works. A number of people have worked to bring this information to you. Hannah Holsinger started collecting information during the summer of 2007. Danielle Whiteley, continued the efforts over this past year, as part of her work study assignment. Anthony Pinkston, a student from Alabama A&M, who joined our team for the summer of 2008 was instrumental in getting the information to the point where we could put it on the website. A special thanks goes out to each of them. ________________________________________________
